Dr. Linda Maykel has been appointed to chair the Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester's board of trustees. Maykel has been a member of the board since 2022, and was previously a clinical instructor for QCC’s dental hygiene clinic.
The appointment was finalized in July, according to a Thursday press release from QCC. Maykel was appointed by Governor Maura Healey.
“Education changes people’s lives forever, especially at QCC where much of our population has an amazing number of responsibilities in addition to school, such as families and jobs,” Maykel said in the press release. “It’s important to me that we make education available to everybody, especially women and minorities. I would like to see more diversity in the STEM disciplines.”
Maykel was president of the QCC Foundation, for which she created the Student Emergency Aid Fund, developed to support students with financial need due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over $190,000 has been raised for the fund since its inception, according to the press release.
Maykel earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and ran her own dental practice in Worcester.
