Democrats choose candidate in bid for DeLuca seat

Democrats have chosen a Bethlehem party chairman as their candidate in the special election for the state Senate seat vacated by Woodbury Republican Louis C. DeLuca.

Kenny Curran will face off against Watertown councilman Rob Kane in the election to be held Jan. 15.

DeLuca quit rather than face possible expulsion for asking a Danbury trash hauler with alleged mob ties to threaten his granddaughter’s husband.

Democrats from the 10 towns in the district caucused Sunday at the Southbury Public Library to choose a candidate.

The 32-year-old Curran is the chairman of the Democratic Town Committee in Bethlehem. He says his experience on local boards and commissions is why he got his party’s nod.
