The national housing market continued to struggle in December, according to the latest estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau and Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Single-family home sales were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 329,000 during December, which is a 7.6-percent drop from the same month in 2009. However, it was a 17.5-percent increase over the revised November rate of 280,000.
The number of new homes sold during 2010 totaled 321,000. That’s down 14.2 percent from the sale total of 2009.
The Northeast had the slowest month. Sales of new houses in the region were at an annual rate of 38,000 during December, 50 percent below the rate in December 2009.
