Dean College to receive $1.1M from FEMA for COVID response

The Federal Emergency Management Agency will reimburse Dean College in Franklin more than $1.1 million for COVID-19 testing and disinfection between April and September 2021.
The funds are coming in the form of a public assistance grant, according to the Friday announcement from FEMA. FEMA’s public assistance program provides grants to state, tribal, territorial, and local governments as well as certain nonprofits to facilitate recovery from disasters or emergencies.
“FEMA is pleased to be able to assist Dean College with these costs,” said Lori Ehrlich, FEMA Region 1 regional administrator, in a press release. “Providing resources for our institutions of higher education to combat the COVID-19 pandemic is critical to their success, and to our success as a nation.”
Dean College is not the only Central Massachusetts college to receive FEMA funds. The federal organization reimbursed The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester for $1.8 million in May for testing and sanitation between August 2020 and January 2021, and $3.4 million in April for testing between January and June 2021, according to the FEMA website.
