The team behind popular Downtown Worcester restaurant deadhorse hill will open a Korean-American restaurant this fall in the former Sweet space on Shrewsbury Street.

The restaurant will be called simjang, the Korean word for "heart," and like the first restaurant, spelled with just lowercase letters.

Simjang will be run by deadhorse hill owners Jared Forman, Sean Woods and Albert LaValley. It will open at 72 Shrewsbury St., where the restaurant and bakery Sweet closed earlier this summer.

The restaurant will join Volturno pizzeria and the Wormtown Brewery in the same building.

“Worcester is known as the Heart of the Commonwealth, and we want this restaurant to be attached to our community in the same vein,” Forman said in a statement. “This city is where things used to happen and where so much is happening once again. Excitement and growth is pulsing through Worcester, and we love continuing to be a part of it by sharing one of our favorite cuisines with the neighborhood. We want simjang to be a place you can have fun, get messy, learn something new, and indulge.”

Like with deadhorse hill, simjang will use local and seasonal ingredients that are responsibly sourced, the team said. The menu will have quickly prepared items and some larger dishes meant to be shared.
