After nearly two decades in the family business, Brendon Davis has moved on from his leadership role at Marlborough staffing firm The DAVIS Cos. and stepped into a newly created role at Washington, D.C.-based employment agency The Midtown Group.
Having served as president at DAVIS since 2014, Davis said he was ready for a new undertaking.
“You do something for 20 years, and sometimes you need to be able to challenge yourself in different ways and leverage all the success and failures that you've learned along that path and transition that into new opportunities,” Davis said.
Davis is leaving his family’s company with no animosity, he said. He still has a great relationship with his father, DAVIS CEO Robert Davis, and brother Patrick Davis, the firm’s vice president for technology.
“After nearly 20 years of helping to shape DAVIS into the organization it is today, Brendon has stepped into a new role outside of the company. During his time with us, he fostered a culture of building lasting relationships, supporting others, and exceeding expectations,” The DAVIS Cos. said in a comment emailed to WBJ by Andrea Pion, vice president of national client programs. “Brendon has taken on a new challenge with The Midtown Group, where he will continue his commitment to growing businesses, fostering a positive culture, and developing high-performing teams. We are proud of everything he accomplished at DAVIS and look forward to seeing him succeed in this next chapter.”
Brendon Davis started his new role at The Midtown Group on Sept. 3 as the firm’s first president of staffing solutions, leading all of its recruitment and sales operations. He’s utilizing what he learned at DAVIS and applying those skills to a national level, he said.
While he’s working remotely in Central Massachusetts, Davis travels to Washington, D.C. every other week for three to four days.
Davis has known Midtown Founder, President, and CEO Helen Stefan Moreau for the last four years through a forum composed of staffing company leaders from around the country. When Davis started looking for new opportunities, he said it became clear very quickly Stefan Moreau could really utilize him to grow the firm’s commercial division.
“It was a natural marriage of really a great opportunity to take a business she's grown and be able to help take it to the next while she’s continuing to grow the federal business,” he said.
While Davis is still very early in his career at The Midtown Group, he has high ambitions for the short-term. Within the next two to three years, he’s looking to achieve 50% to 100% growth within the commercial staffing group, including doubling its head count, revenue, and margins.
It’s a challenge he’s excited to tackle, especially with a company whose ethos he connects so well with, he said.
“If you look at their tagline for The Midtown Group it's: ‘Love what you do.’ And I really have had a passion for connecting really great companies that love what they do and candidates that love what they do,” Davis said.
