Marlborough staffing firm Davis Cos. will move its corporate offices into a 24,700-square-foot office building in Marlborough after purchasing it last week for $4.1 million.
At full capacity, the space will house at least 110 corporate employees compared to the 65 employees currently housed in the company’s main headquarters in leased space in an office building on Donald Lynch Boulevard.
“It’s a good building for our company,” CEO Bob Davis said via phone Monday morning.
The building at 241 Boston Post Road West, which city property records show as built in 2002, replaced a building Davis said the company wanted to buy about 20 years ago.
It then became the multi-tenant Marlborough office center and has housed various companies, including Cassidy & Fishman, Inc., Auraria Networks, Inc. and Retirement Distribution Planning.
The property was sold by 62 Realty LLC, a real estate management entity registered to Timothy Preston.
Davis Cos. is honoring the lease of one final tenant, but plans to occupy the entire building once that tenant’s lease ends in three years.
With the company growing at a clip of above 20 percent over the last two years and the economy firing on all cylinders, Davis said the time was right to pull the trigger after years of looking at office space to buy.
It was near perfect timing with the economy boosting the company’’s performance and its corporate headquarters lease nearing its end, Davis said.
The company was looking at a building Northborough, but staying in the tech-heavy Marlborough became a priority for the company, which specializes in staffing engineers and advanced manufacturing workers.
There was a lot of impetus on our end to stay in Marlborough,” Davis said.
