Career highlights:
I have been working in the industry since age 14. After graduating Bentley College cum laude, I worked for three different public accounting firms over 14 years, gaining experience in tax and accounting with hundreds of clients. After an unexpected layoff in April 2005, I began my firm, McLaren & Associates CPA’s.

Community involvement:
When I was 9 years old, my 11-year-old sister passed away from leukemia. Since then, I have dedicated my life to causes that have affected family and friends including working with Andrew’s Helpful Hands Foundation financially helping children with cancer stay in their homes, as well as getting numerous people on the National Bone Marrow Registry. I am past treasurer and board member of the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden. This year I personally raised $2,000 for the Organization for Women with Breast Cancer. I am the president of Shrewsbury Business Networking International as well as the chairman of the Worcester Chamber Referral Group. I am on the watch for crimes and have been involved with solving some, earning me the nickname “Monk.”

Biggest success:
My biggest success professionally is coming from a very poor background, being on welfare, and getting to where I am today, as owner and CEO of a CPA firm. I received my CPA license as early as legally possible and built a wonderful firm with a great team of people. After only two years, we exceeded our 5-year goals. We are now looking to add others to our team.

Dream job:
My dream job is to continue on our current path, add to our team, and add locations.

Businessperson he most admires and why:
Jack Sargent is the businessperson I most admire. He is a dynamic CPA with a firm in Washington, D.C. As a CPA, he is an extraordinary tax planner, has a great personality, and is a great deal of fun. His reputation as a CPA is unsurpassed in the U.S. I have been following his lead and hope to continue our popularity and success as Jack has continued his.
