Movers and Shakers

Leominster Credit Union's Board of Directors have elected GORDON EDMONDS president and CEO. He has been a member of LCU's senior management for six years serving as senior vice president of lending. Prior to joining LCU, he had senior positions at a number of financial institutions, including Hanscom Federal Credit Union, Bank of Western Massachusetts, and Bank of New Hampshire.

Citizens Bank in Boston has named JEWEL JAMES vice president and director of public affairs. He will be responsible for overseeing public relations, charitable giving and government affairs throughout the state. Prior to joining Citizens, James was director of special projects at the Congressional Black Caucus in Washington, D.C., where she also worked as a manager in the State Action Department at the Center for Policy Alternatives. James was a Council of World Women Leaders Fellow at the New York Stock Exchange.

RACHEL STEWART has been promoted to assistant vice president at Framingham Co-operative Bank. She joined the bank in 1999 and has more than three decades of banking experience. Her financial services background includes managing retirement accounts and SBLI Insurance sales, and she holds both Insurance and Long Term Care licenses. During her 13-year association with MetroWest Bank (now TD Banknorth), she managed the bank's retirement, insurance, and safe deposit departments and also its relationship banking program. She is also administrative director of the Framingham Co-operative Bank Charitable Foundation.

DEIRDRE SANDERS has been named to the executive board of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Venture Forum. Sanders is a principal with Concord-based law firm Hamilton Brook Smith Reynolds. She earned a B.A. in biology and anthropology and an M.A. in anthropology from State University of New York at Albany. She has also earned a J.D. from Boston College Law School.

ERWIN MILLER, a lawyer with Bowditch & Dewey LLP, has been chosen to receive the President's Call to Service Award from the Boys & Girls Club of Worcester. The award was presented to Miller at the Annual Meeting of the Boys & Girls Club of Worcester in recognition and appreciation for making a difference through volunteer service.  For more than over 30 years his mission has been to serve disadvantaged youth in the city of Worcester.  He has been a board member of the Boys & Girls Club for 17 years and recently completed his three-year term as President.  During his governance, Miller was also co-chair of the Boys & Girls Club's $9.5 million capital campaign.

JILL DAGILIS, executive director of the Worcester Community Action Council, has been appointed to the newly formed Advisory Board of the Female Leadership Interest Council Inc. in Westborough. Dagilis worked for the city of Worcester for 25 years before ending her tenure as the city's director of Health and Human Services in September 2006. As the Executive Director of the Community Action Council, she leads an organization focused on stimulating change in the fundamental causes of poverty, and to create and provide opportunities for economic self-sufficiency through services, partnership, and advocacy. She oversees an annual budget of $13 to $15 million.

LAURA DILTS has been appointed as the new director of volunteers and transport services at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge. She comes to Harrington with more than 15 years of experience in volunteer management including training, project management and leading cross functional teams. For the last seven years, she has worked as the manager of adult development for the Girl Scouts of Montachusett Council. She has worked with volunteers in a variety of ways including program events, fundraising, conferences, recruitment and adult education.

MICHAEL ADDIS, associate professor and chair of the Department of Psychology at Clark University, was recently elected president of the Society for the Psychological Study of Men and Masculinity, Division 51 of the American Psychological Association. The society advances knowledge in the psychology of men through research, education, training, public policy, and improved clinical practice. His current research, which is funded by the National Institutes of Health, seeks to understand barriers men face to seeking help for behavioral health problems. Professor Addis has also conducted research on the process and outcome of psychotherapies for mood and anxiety disorders, and the relationships between clinical research and clinical practice in psychology.

Clinton Savings Bank has appointed MICHAEL BOVENZI vice president of commercial lending. In this new role, Bovenzi will be responsible for the continued development of profitable commercial customer relationships in order to further support the bank's growth. He will also help with development of Internet cash management tools and other resources for the bank's commercial customers. Prior to this appointment, he was vice president in the commercial lending department of Westborough Bank and also served in a similar capacity at Commerce Bank and Trust in Worcester.

SANDRA CROWLEY-LE, DMD, has been named a guest member to the board of trustees of the Massachusetts Dental Society, a statewide professional association serving more than 4,500 member dentists. Dr. Crowley-Le will participate in several board meetings over the next year, offering input on a wide range of issues relating to the MDS and the dental profession. She is currently a member of the MDS Council on Access, Prevention, and Interprofessional Relations, the Women's Leadership Task Force, and the Bioterrorism and Disaster Preparedness Task Force. She practices general dentistry in Northborough.

Hudson-based Murphy Insurance Agency has hired CHRISTOPHER PENNEY as commercial lines manager. He will worked out of the agency's Marlborough office and will oversee the inside commercial insurance team, which provides customer service, research, marketing and underwriting for new and renewal insurance policies including business owners, general liability, property, commercial auto, workers' compensation, liability and more. Penney has more than 20 years of experience in commercial insurance. Most recently, he was a territory manager with OneBeacon Insurance Co.

The Aerospace States Association has elected Massachusetts Lt. Gov. TIM MURRAY vice chair. Lieutenant governors from twelve states were elected to leadership positions. In this position, Murray will help lead the association and spearhead initiatives in Aerospace R&D. The group's top issues include R&D funding, workforce training, economic development in aerospace and aviation, excellence in math and science education in every state, and factors to keep states competitive in a global marketplace.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute has announced that CHARLES RICH, a research scientist and associate director of the Research Laboratory of Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories in Cambridge and a pioneer in intelligent computer systems, has joined the university's interactive media and game development faculty. Rich, who will have a faculty appointment in the computer science department, was a founding member of MERL in 1991. In his research, Rich has focused on making people's interaction with computers more intuitive by having computers respond more like people do. His recent work at MERL seeks to simplify the way people operate increasingly sophisticated household appliances and other devices, which incorporate computers to implement a burgeoning array of new features.
