Movers and Shakers
Fitchburg-based Micron Products Inc. has appointed MICHAEL NOLAN as chief operating officer. Prior to joining Micron, he served as the managing director of Braver Business Strategies of Newton. Nolan was also a founder and managing partner of Nolan Brown Partners LLC, a business consulting firm that specialized in assisting traditional manufacturing enterprises in finding and developing new products and markets.
Protector Group Insurance Agency Inc. of Worcester has hired DAVID SHORE as vice president in its employee benefits division. Shore previously held sales and underwriting positions at Arthur J. Gallagher, William Gallagher Associates, and Great West Life & Annuity Insurance Co. As vice president at Protector Group, Shore will be responsible for new business generation as well as underwriting and insurance placement of the company's employee benefits clients.
CHERYL PROVENCAL has been promoted to senior crew member by South Grafton-based Noah's Ark Workshop, a direct seller of plush animals, outfits and accessories. She began with the company in December 2006 as a crew member. Noah's Ark Animal Workshop is a traveling "stuff-n-fluff" workshop that offers independent crew members the chance to provide children of all ages a hands-on, creative and stimulating experience.
JEFFREY TURCOTTE was appointed business development officer in the community business banking group at Middlesex Savings Bank. He will be responsible for developing business banking relationships with new clients in the Assabet Valley area. He has more than 10 years experience in banking, and most recently worked for TD Banknorth in merchant sales.
STEPHEN SPINNEY was appointed to assistant vice president of commercial banking at Middlesex Savings Bank. He will manage and develop a portfolio of commercial banking and loan relationships in his region. Spinney joins Middlesex Savings Bank with 26 years experience in sales, marketing, business development and business banking. Previously, he was vice president of business banking at FleetBoston Financial and Bank of America.
ANN CARLSON, executive vice president and managing director of the health care, education and nonprofit division at Sovereign Bank, was recently named the winner of the 2008 Miles-Lincoln Award, which is given to someone who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the welfare of children and families. Carlson has worked hard on behalf of the children and families Children's Friend serves. She has held major offices on the Board of Directors since 2000, and has led Children's Friend as Board Chair since 2005. Carlson also chairs the agency's development committee and helped lead its most recent strategic planning process. In addition, Ann is a Board Member of the American Red Cross of Central MA; Board Member of the YWCA of Central MA; and has recently joined the Workplace Campaign Cabinet of United Way of Central MA.
The Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension Partnership of Worcester has elected two new members to its board of directors. SHARON JOHNSON, the director of the industrial engineering program at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and DAVID MORGAN, general manager of Perkins Products at Perkins School for the Blind will both fill vacancies on the board.
WALTER WRIGHT, professor of philosophy, will serve as associate provost and dean of the College at Clark University. He succeeds Douglas Little, professor of history, who has served in that role since 2000. Wright has served on the faculty at Clark since 1968, and has taught ethics, the history of philosophy, and German idealism. He has several published and has been active in faculty governance and curriculum planning, and has served multiple terms on every major committee. He has served as chair of the philosophy department, and served twice as dean of the college, once in 1970 as a fill-in and the other for a full term from 1980 to 1982.
Executive search firm, SullivanKreiss in Northborough has named, TIM JOHNSON, FRANK RIVELLI, and JEFF SIMEONE, project operations managers. A graduate of Boston University, Johnson's experience includes extensive work recruiting civil engineering professionals with land development water/wastewater, and highway design backgrounds. Simeone received his degree from Clark University and is an expert at recruiting planning and landscape architect professionals all over the country. Rivelli specializes in recruiting architect professionals including principal designers and market sector leaders serving industries that include healthcare, senior living, and life sciences. MARY KAY ALBERT has been elected president of the Massachusetts Medical Society Alliance in Waltham. She was elected to a one-year term. A member of the alliance since 1982, she has served as vice president and president of the Worcester District Medical Society Alliance. Widely active in the Worcester community, she has also served as vice president of the International Center of Worcester, as a board member of Bet Shalom Senior Residence, and as a member of the Junior League of Worcester.
Southbridge-based Savers Bank has named JOHN FEARING as vice president and senior lending officer. Most recently, he comes from Ware Co-operative Bank and brings to the bank approximately 25 years of lending experience. Savers Bank also announced that CHRISTOPHER MARTIN has been appointed chief operating officer. He will oversee retail banking, training, marketing, investments, deposit, services and IT. He joined the bank in October 2006 as the vice president of retail administration and has 25 years of banking experience.
