Movers and Shakers


The Central Mass Financial Executives Organization has elected new officers for the 2007-2008 year. Elected were: Executive Chair ANDREW RICE from Westminster-based Munksjo Paper Co.; Program Chair JOHN MEDBURY from Bowditch & Dewey LLP in Worcester; Membership Chair HARRY BLAKESLEE from Marlborough-based HBA Enterprises; and Treasurer JIM WENTZELL from Worcester-based Protector Group Insurance Agency.
CAROL SEXTON, vice president of Sovereign Bank in Westborough has been named to the advisory board for the new Female Leadership Interest Council, a nonprofit organization founded on the principles of female leadership and mentoring. Sexton has been in the banking business for more than 25 years, 15 of those at Sovereign Bank and 12 years before that at Bay Bank. State Rep. KARYN POLITO (R-Shrewsbury) has also been appointed to the board.
CAROL CULLINS of Templeton has joined Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner as director of alumni affairs and annual giving. Cullins previously was the director of sales and member services at the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce, where she worked for four years. She is a graduate of MWCC's business administration program and earned her bachelor's degree in marketing from Bentley College.
UMass Memorial Medical Group and the Division of Internal Medicine at UMass Memorial Medical Center announced that Dr. SONIA BAGGA has joined the staff. She also joins the University of Massachusetts Medical School as an assistant professor of medicine. Bagga graduated from the Government Medical College of Punjabi University in India. She completed her internal medicine residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Prior to joining UMass Memorial, she provided outpatient internal medicine care at the Fallon Clinic in Leominster. UMass also welcomed Dr. DAVID WEXLER as the chief of general otolaryngology at the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He has also been appointed assistant professor of otolaryngology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Wexler received his medical degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine in 1985, and he completed his residency in surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Methods Machine Tools in Sudbury has appointed JAMES KUCHARSKI as product manager for Maier Swiss CNC turning centers. Before joining Methods Machine, Kucharski worked for Connecticut-based Tornos Technologies. With more than 17 years of experience selling Swiss and other high-end production lathes, he hired, trained, and supervised a multi-state distributor sales force. Prior to that, he served two years as general manager and applications engineer at Futuristics Inc.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute has appointed GERMANO IANNACCHIONE as head of the physics department; he has been interim head since April 2006. JAMES DOYLE has been named head of the social science and policy studies department as of on July 1. Iannacchione joined the WPI faculty 1998 after serving as a postdoctoral research fellow in physics at Kent State University and as a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Chemistry and the Center for Materials Science and Engineering at the MIT. Doyle has been a member of the WPI faculty since 1992. He earned a B.A. in environmental science at the University of California at Berkeley and an M.S. and a P.h.D. in psychology at the University of Colorado at Boulder. His research has focused on judgment and decision making, risk perception and communication, and mental models of complex systems.
Marlborough-based Lendia LLC has appointed RICH HOFBAUER chief operating officer. Prior to joining Lendia, Hofbauer was the CIO for MortgageIT in New York City. In that capacity, he directed information technology operations, software development, system architecture, and project management. Lendia has also hired GREG KIMBALL as vice president of operations. He was formerly vice president of the northeast division operations manager for New Century Mortgage.
Worcester-based Wright Line has hired EDWARD BEDNARCIK as chief executive officer effective. He has more than 25 years experience in executive and senior management and comes to Wright Line from A123 systems, a supplier of high-power lithium ion batteries where he was vice president and general manager.
Richards Barry Joyce & Partners has hired JAY NUGENT and ERIC SMITH to the firm's brokerage team. Nugent joins RBJ as a vice president in the suburban leasing group and Smith is the new assistant vice president in the suburban leasing group. Nugent comes to RBJ from Jones Lang LaSalle, where he was an assistant vice president. During the past six years he has been involved in the lease and sale of more than 4 million square feet of space. Prior to joining RBJ, Smith was with CB Richard Ellis/New England, where he worked with clients such as Alexandria Real Estate Equities, AEW Capital Management, New Boston Fund, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Alinea Pharmaceuticals, Biomodels and Gene Network Sciences.
Commonwealth National Bank announced several promotions. ANDREA DUPELL to vice president, IT manager from assistant vice president, IT manager. She has been with the bank since 2001. MARY DEAN was promoted to vice president, cash management/commercial lending officer from vice president, commercial lending officer. ALLA DEMIHOVSKY was promoted to vice president, credit officer from assistant vice president, credit officer. She has been with the bank since 2001. Tomas Tauszig was promoted to loan officer from assistant loan officer. He has been with the bank since 2003.
Millbury Savings Bank has elected JULIE FITTON, a sen-ior security specialist with The Hanover Insurance Group, to its board of trustees. Also appointed to its board of corporators were: JENNEY FIELDS, president and senior consultant of the Sutton Technology Group, and MICHAEL KEATING, owner and president of Keating Enterprises Inc. The bank also named LYNNE FEIZ as marketing and retail sales officer. She comes to Millbury Savings Bank after eight years with Fidelity Investments in Marlborough, most recently as the director of marketing communications for Fidelity's retirement services division.
The Worcester Sharks welcomed three new people. CRISTIN HOULIHAN has been named office manager, TIMOTHY WEGNER has been named account executive and ticket sales analyst and KAITLIN KOHUTANYCZ has been named account executive.
Prior to joining the Sharks, Houlihan was employed at the Crowne Plaza as an executive assistant as well as providing sales support. Wegner recently graduated from The Ohio State University with a major in marketing and a minor in communications. He spent last summer in Worcester as an intern for the Sharks. Kohutanycz recently graduated from Assumption College earning a B.S. in marketing. She joins the Sharks full-time staff after interning with the club this past spring.
Worcester-based Bay State Savings Bank has promoted SARAH HOOGASIAN to marketing officer. She joined Bay State Savings Bank in 2002 as a teller and has held several positions including master teller and marketing assistant,
Clinton Savings Bank has been joined by HOLLY ALESSI as assistant vice president of operations and security officer. Most recently, she worked as manager of the call center and operations at St. Mary's Credit Union in Marlborough.

Maynard-based J.M. Coull has hired PETER PATNO as vice president of accounting and JOHN DAVISON as manager of business development. Patno joins the company from Stock Building Supply where he held the position of district credit manager for the New York and New England regions. Previously, he served as director of credit at G.V. Moore Lumber Co., and corporate credit manager at MedImaging Technology. Davison was a sales and project manager with Mechanical Alliance Service Company where he was responsible for cost estimation, sales and contract negotiations. Additionally, he focused on project management, including the development of construction schedules and budgets.
CHRISTINE MACWADE has been appointed executive director of Family Services of Central Massachusetts. MacWade succeeds Gary W. Thomas, who has been the executive director of the agency since 1998. She joined Family Services in 1996 as the director of elder services and was promoted to clinical director in 2000.
Assumption College in Worcester has appointed MARY BEADLE provost. She is the dean of The Graduate School at John Carroll University in Cleveland, a position she has held since 2001. She will assume her duties in August.
NICOLE BERRY has been promoted to branch manager of the Southbridge Plaza office of Southbridge Savings Bank. She brings more than two years experience working with Southbridge Savings Bank in the assistant manager role.
