The data storage company Western Digital is closing a 114-worker facility in Marlborough as part of a restructuring.

The firm's offices on Donald Lynch Boulevard will close by the end of August 2019, a spokesman said Thursday.

Western Digital, which is based in San Jose, Calif., is consolidating closing operations in Marlborough, Salt Lake City and San Diego, and moving operations into two locations in California, one in Minnesota and another in Colorado, spokesman Steve Shattuck said. Workers will be offered opportunities at those locations and those who will not be transferring will be given severance and outplacement support services, he said.

The company told the state in a filing last month that is required under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act that it plans to eliminate the jobs between Aug. 27 and Aug. 30.

Western Digital came to Marlborough in 2016 when it bought SanDisk, a company with a presence in Marlborough since 2014. Its 60,000-square-foot facility is visible from I-290 just west of where the highway meets I-495.

The Marlborough Economic Development Corp. has offered help to employees in finding other jobs in the area, said Meredith Harris, the executive director of the MEDC.

"There are definitely ample opportunities for those folks to be picked up by other employers in the city," Harris said, describing the workforce as mainly engineers and those in research and development.
