Dana-Farber Gets Blue Cross Blue Shield Award
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, which recently opened a cancer center at Milford Regional Hospital in conjunction with Brigham & Women's Hospital, has won the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Health Care Excellence Award.
This is the second year that the insurance company is presenting the award, which comes with $100,000. It recognizes exceptional achievement in improving the safety and effectiveness of health care. The award will be presented at a luncheon today.
Blue Cross Blue Shield chose Dana-Farber for its patient- and family-centered model, which encourages collaboration, communication and engagement. Examples of the model include an advisory council made up of patients and families and a program that encourages patients to review lists of their mediations and allergies to reduce errors.
