Medway-based fitness equipment maker Cybex International is recalling 234 free weight benches that can collapse and pose an injury risk, U.S. regulators said.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission said Cybex’s Decline benches were designed for use in professional gyms and sold in three styles. The Decline is a traditional Olympic-style bench that accommodates a seven-foot-wide bar.
Cybex received nine complaints about the benches showing signs of stress near the weld point, but no injuries were reported.
The benches were sold from December 2008 to September 2013 for about $1,100 each.
Cybex didn’t immediately return a call or email for comment.
Customers have been advised to stop using the bench immediately and call Cybex for instructions on how to inspect the frame and for getting a free repair.
