The CVS Health-operated COVID-19 testing center in Shrewsbury has closed in favor of a rapid-testing site at a store in Lowell, the company co-announced with Gov. Charlie Baker's office on Tuesday.
Describing the Shrewsbury test center as a pilot site, the governor's office said the Lowell locale will be able to test up to 1,000 people a day for the coronavirus, using a new Abbott ID NOW COVID-19 test
The new center will be located in the parking lot of Showcase Cinemas located at 32 Reiss Ave., in Lowell, and will be overseen by healthcare providers from MinuteClinic, CVS Health's retail medical clinic, according to a press release.
The rapid testing site makes Massachusetts the third state where CVS Health is offering rapid testing, along with Rhode Island and Georgia.
