Cummings School Opens Campus Center

The Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in North Grafton has opened its new campus center.

The center is the result of a $6 million renovation of a nurses’ dormitory at the former Grafton State Hospital. The center includes a 1,000-square-foot gym, a cafeteria, a bookstore, faculty offices, meeting rooms and student lounges.

A second, $4 million phase of the renovation is underway. It will include an outdoor patio area and a 173-seat auditorium to serve as a large lecture hall.

The center is called the Agnes Varis Campus Center and will be officially dedicated Sept. 23. The entire renovation project is scheduled to be complete in the spring. The construction firm on the project is Bowdoin Construction of Needham.
