Convenience store and gas station chain Cumberland Farms is further broadening its geographical footprint as the Westborough-based company is set to open nine new locations throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The three new Cumberland Farms in Massachusetts will be located in Seekonk, Freetown, and Quincy, and the six Rhode Island sites will open in Portsmouth, Middletown, Warwick, Providence, North Providence, and East Greenwich, according to a Thursday press release from EG America, the Westborough-based operator of Cumberland Farms.

EG America is leasing the nine locations from Neon Marketplace, a Rhode Island-based convenience store and gas station company operating at each site

“Expanding EG America’s network of stores and reinforcing the Cumberland Farms brand aligns with our long-term business objectives and supports our commitment to strategic growth, enhanced guest service, and market leadership across the region,” Russ Colaco, CEO of EG Group, said in the release. “We look forward to welcoming the current team members of these stores to EG America and continuing to deliver the exceptional value, offers, and convenience our guests have come to expect.”

Each Neon Marketplace location, all built between 2020 and 2023, will rebrand into a Cumberland Farms within the coming weeks, each outfitted with EV charging stations and drive-thrus.

“This agreement reflects the strength of what we have built at Neon Marketplace. EG America’s interest in these sites is a testament to the quality of our stores, our teams, and our commitment to operational excellence,” Adi Dhandhania, CEO of Neon Marketplace, said in the release. “We are proud that these locations will continue to serve guests and local communities, and we are confident they will bring long-term value to EG America’s growing portfolio.”

Since opening its first shop in 1957, today, Cumberland Farms operates more than 575 stores throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Florida, Maine, New York, New Hampshire, and Vermont, according to the company’s website

In 2019, the chain was acquired by EG Group, the U.K.-based parent company of EG America.
