Cultivate begins Uxbridge negotiations for 130K sq. ft. marijuana facility

A week after starting talks with Leicester, marijuana retailer Cultivate has begun negotiations with Uxbridge for a cannabis cultivation and manufacturing facility of up to 130,000 square feet.
The company presented its plans to the Uxbridge Board of Selectmen on Monday, where the board ultimately voted unanimously to negotiate a host community agreement for the company’s proposed facility at a newly-approved business park.
Cultivate’s Managing Partner and Co-Founder Rob Lally touted the company’s status in history as one of the first two legal cannabis operators to sell recreational marijuana on the East Coast.
“Our goal is to be the premier provider of cannabis in the state of Massachusetts,” he said.
The proposed facility includes mostly greenhouse-type space and a manufacturing facility. The company would continue to operate its Leicester dispensary and the 10,000 square feet of cultivation space there.
The company proposed community impact fees of a maximum of $150,000 and a minimum of $100,000, on which some board members were hesitant to agree.
Cultivate is also seeking an agreement with officials in Leicester for a similarly sized facility, but the company must choose just one location.
Current state marijuana laws allow a licensed operator just 100,000 square feet of cultivation space.
When reached by phone, Co-founder and President Sam Barber said the company has not yet decided on whether to pick Uxbridge or Leicester for the location.
Leicester officials could not immediately be reached for comment on if that agreement had been signed.
