Country Bank, headquartered in Ware, announced at its annual meeting on Monday it has pledged $1 million dollars to the Worcester County Food Bank and The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.
The bank presented both leadership teams from both organizations with surprise checks for $500,000 each, according to the announcement.
“As a community partner, we care deeply about the sustainability of our communities and the people who live in them,” said President and CEO Paul Scully, in a statement. “In recognizing the burdens that many have experienced throughout this past year, Country Bank is 'Throwing Hunger a Curve Ball' by pledging $1 million to the communities it serves.”
The donation builds on the bank’s 2020 philanthropic work, which exceeded $1 million and was spread across 450 nonprofits in the region, according to Monday’s announcement.
