Confirmed coronavirus cases across Massachusetts hit 1,838 on Wednesday, according to the state Department of Public Health, including 129 in Worcester County.
There are now a reported 15 fatalities. Three of those are in Worcester County, including a man and woman in their 70s with pre-existing conditions, whose deaths were announced Wednesday. Worcester County's first death was announced Friday, a woman in her 70s.
Those numbers are up in a period of just one day by 59% statewide and 77% in Worcester County.

The latest numbers continue a startling rise in cases in Massachusetts in the past week, a trend echoing the spread of coronavirus across the country.
One week ago, on March 18, Massachusetts had 256 cases, including 10 in Worcester County, and hadn't yet recorded a death.
Worcester city officials said Wednesday that 27 people in the city had tested positive, all of them now in quarantine and being monitored by city health officials. That was up from 19 the day prior.

Nearly 20,000 coronavirus tests have now been conducted in Massachusetts, a drastic rise in recent days as public health officials look to better gauge how many people are infected.
Nationwide, cases have surpassed 61,000, with 869 deaths as of Wednesday afternoon, according to Johns Hopkins University of Maryland. Worldwide, cases have exceeded 458,000, including more than 20,800 deaths.
