Cornerstone Bank, headquartered in Southbridge, announced on Monday it has promoted its senior vice president of human resources, Maria Salvatore, to chief culture officer, a newly created role at the company.

Salvatore’s promotion was effective Jan. 1.

In her new role, Salvatore will build on the work she did in the company’s human resources department, continuing to lead HR functions, as well as take on management of both the employee and community relations teams.

“I look forward to embarking on this new journey within an organization that places such an emphasis on both the professional development of its employees and strengthening its ties with members of the community,” Salvatore said.

Salvatore, who joined Cornerstone in 2018, attended both Rhode Island College and Northeastern University in Boston, where she received her master’s in human resources.
