Corero in deal to offer hybrid security approach

Internet security provider Corero Network Security of Hudson is partnering with a Virginia firm, Verisign, to improve customer defenses against distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks.

DDoS attacks seek to overwhelm online services with too much web traffic.

A statement Tuesday from Corero says the integrated approach combines Corero’s on-premises technology with Verisign’s cloud-based DDoS protection technology, OpenHybrid, to stop some DDoS attacks. Together, the architecture is designed to detect and respond to a large spectrum of DDoS attacks.

“This integration enables customers to stay ahead of the DDoS challenge through a combined, always-on hybrid DDoS solution based on open standards,” Danny McPherson, senior vice president at Verisign, of Reston, Va., said in the statement.

“This collaboration with Verisign further underscores the momentum in the market for a hybrid approach to DDoS defense,” Dave Larson, Corero’s chief technology officer and vice president, said in the statement. “Further, the technology integration between the two organizations is an example of combining best-of-breed solutions in both categories in order to better defend customers against DDoS attacks with real-time defense technology.”
