Consumers More Confident In August

The Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Index hit 56.9 this month, an improvement over a score of 51.9 in July.

The July score was also a moderate improvement, the Washington, D.C.-based Conference Board said.

However, the board’s Present Situation Index decreased to 63.2 from 65.8 last month while the Expectations Index increased to 52.8 from 42.7 in July.

The Consumer Confidence survey is conducted for the Conference Board by international research company TNS.
