Consumer Confidence Reaches New Low

The Consumer Confidence Index fell from 37.4 in January to a record low score of 25 in February, according to the Conference Board.

Within the overall index, the “present situation index” fell to 21.2 in February from 29.7 in the previous month. The “expectations index” declined from 42.5 to 27.5 during the same period.

The Conference Board bases the index on a monthly survey of 5,000 households. The board said worsening business conditions, a poor job market and the sour overall economy drove the index down in February.
