The construction of 17 residential units and 6,000-square-feet of commercial space of development at 316 Shrewsbury St. in Worcester is showing visible signs of progress, according documents and information from the City of Worcester.
The property is owned by Better Living Investment Partners, LLC, which is registered to Shawqi Alsarabi of Walpole, owner of Revoli Construction of Franklin.
Construction equipment has been moved to the site, and the street immediately outside the property has been cordoned off as a construction zone. Work appears to have been underway for some time, although it was not active on Tuesday morning. A Worcester building permit dated April 2020 has been posted to the site.
According to the City of Worcester, the project was originally approved by the Planning Board in July 2018, for 14 units as part of a renovation, but has since expanded. In 2019, the project was amended to establish 17 units and 3,000 square feet of commercial space. In 2021, the Planning Board approved another amendment doubling the commercial space and incorporating minor design revisions.
Those amendments include a build out on the rear of the building in lieu of a straightforward renovation. The addition will include garage parking for 27 vehicles, with three additional spaces outside in front, per the Planning Board.
Alsarabi did not respond to a request for more details about the project, including whether the residential spaces would be condos, as well as affordable, luxury, or market-rate housing. Before the latest Planning Board changes, the development was advertised as luxury apartments.
CLARIFICATION: A previous version of this story said construction was slated to begin on the units at 316 Shrewsbury St. According to a building permit on the site, construction has already begun.
I live very near here. This building has been under construction for over a year and is almost done. I don’t know why its reported as only beginning now.
