Construction Spending Lower In May

Construction spending in the United States fell 0.6 percent in May, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Public construction spending fell by 0.8 percent, while private construction spending fell by 0.4 percent.

Public spending on educational construction fell 2.3 percent, while public spending on highway construction fell by 1.5 percent.

During the first five months of 2011, construction spending totaled $285.1 billion, which is 6.3 percent lower than the same period a year ago.
