Construction of a water treatment plant in Warren commenced on Saturday with the help of $5 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development program, according to a Monday press release from the USDA.
The treatment plant on Comins Pond Road will provide clean drinking water for 2,270 Warren residents, per the announcement.
USDA Rural Development provided more than $3.7 million in loans and a grant of almost $2.3 million to the Warren Water District, a privately-owned business governed by three board members.
The site of the plant is 2.9 acres, and 2,625 square feet of bordering land will be subject to flooding, according to a document filed with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.
