Construction employment declined in 53 percent of metropolitan areas from April 2010 to April 2011, according to a report from the Associated General Contractors of America.
Central Massachusetts metropolitan areas broke about even over the year, according to the report. The Worcester area shed approximately 200 construction jobs, but the Leominster-Fitchburg-Gardner area made up for it with a gain of 200 construction jobs. The Framingham area remained level, the AGCA said.
The report noted that across the country, recent increases in private-sector construction activity have been offset by declining investments in public infrastructure projects.
