Construction Employment Dips In Mass. As Nation Improves

The Worcester and Boston metro areas both lost construction jobs in August compared to the same month a year ago, according to the Associated General Contractors of America.

The AGC said construction employment in the Worcester metro area declined 2 percent to 8,200 jobs between August 2009 and last month.

Construction employment in the Boston metro area dipped 5 percent to 50,000 jobs.

AGC said 56 metro areas added construction jobs over the year, the greatest number of job gains for the industry since Sept. 2008.

The best-performing areas were Kansas City and the Hanford-Corcoran, Calif. metro area. The areas that lost the most jobs were Chicago and Napa, Calif.
