Construction co. pays to settle EPA claims

A Worcester construction company has paid the Environmental Protection Agency $7,150 to settle EPA claims that it violated the Federal Clean Water Act at a site in Princeton.

An EPA investigation concluded that that Valente Construction Co. Inc. had failed to obtain storm water permits, perform documented inspections, and implement structural “Best Management Practices” at a construction site on Brooks Station Road in Princeton.

The site, which was the location of several single family house lots, was of particular concern because storm water from the site discharges into wetland areas and to Cobb Brook, which ultimately flows into the Wachusett Reservoir, a public drinking water supply.

EPA discovered the violations at a site inspection in March of last year.  The Princeton Conservation Commission and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation made complaints regarding storm water discharges from the construction site.
