Consigli Construction Co. Inc. of Milford has been awarded a $19.2 million contract to build a fitness center as well as sports fields, according to the U.S. Navy.
The project includes building a fitness center, creating a lighted softball field, a three-court tennis facility and installing lights to an existing field for track, soccer and football at the Newport Naval Station.
The building design will also integrate anti-terrorism force protection and sustainable design principles. It is expected to be completed by August 2011 and involves the demolition of three existing buildings.
The contract also includes one unexercised option that would increase its value by $1.2 million.
Consigli’s winning proposal was chosen from four other competitors, according to the U.S. Navy.
The Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Mid-Atlantic, Norfolk, Va., awarded the contract.
