Altus Power of Stamford, Conn. opened a new 10-megawatt solar array and 15-megawatt battery storage system in Holliston.
The electricity generated will be delivered under long-term agreements with a regional supermarket as well as local community solar customers under the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (SMART) program, according to a Tuesday press release from Altus.
One megawatt of solar-generated electricity can power more than 150 homes in Massachusetts, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association.
“Battery storage is an important tool for local utilities to ensure grid stability as they increase their reliance on renewable electricity,” Altus co-CEO and co-Founder Gregg Felton said in the press release. “In addition, we expect storage will increasingly be paired with Altus Power solar arrays for customers interested in clean, on-site backup power and electric vehicle charging.”
Altus Power is a publicly traded company operating facilities in 25 states and owns and operates 116 of solar arrays in Massachusetts, as of March 31. The company has a market capitalization of more than $1 billion as of Friday and reported $101 million in revenue in 2022.
