Conn. allocates $325M for clean water

The state has approved $325 million in funding for the Clean Water Fund, the largest single amount received by the fund since it started more than 20 years ago.

The funding will be comprised of $90 million in general obligation bonds and $235 million in revenue bonds.

CWF is the primary mechanism for funding wastewater treatment and sewer projects in Connecticut, and is focused on stopping raw sewage overflows into rivers and Long Island Sound, and restoring the Sound's low-oxygen "dead zone."

"While this is a key step forward, it is hopefully only the first of many. Save the Sound is grateful to Governor Rell, the Connecticut legislature and every Connecticut citizen who spoke out on behalf of clean water," said Leah L. Schmalz, director of legislative and legal affairs of Save the Sound.

In 2004, Connecticut Fund for the Environment merged with Save the Sound to protect and improve the environment of our state and the Long Island Sound region.
