A Massachusetts biotechnology industry group has given its stamp of approval to training programs at eight community colleges, including Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester and Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner.
The endorsement comes from the Massachusetts Life Science Education Consortium, a joint initiative between the MassBioEd Foundation and MassBio.
Some programs were ranked "silver," meaning that all students completing the courses have the knowledge and skills required for entry-level work in biotech research and/or manufacturing. Others received a "gold" rank, meaning that the program also involves internships or cooperative experience.
Quinsigamond's biotechnology certificate program received a gold endorsement, while Mount Wachusett got silver endorsements for both its associate of science in biotechnology/biomanufacturing degree and its biotechnology/biomanufacturing certificate.
