Framingham marketing and public relations agency Commonwealth Creative Associates has opened an office in London, England, staffed by Larry Buckley, the agency's senior strategist and chief creative officer.
"Larry wanted to change where he was, and had the opportunity to move to London with his wife, and we had two large clients that stated to us that if we created an overseas office we could have their international business," said Bob Fields, founder and president of CCA.
Buckley is working with Health Dialog and GE Healthcare, both of which have offices in Massachusetts and the United Kingdom. Fields said the company is also pursuing other clients in the U.K. and may add more staff in the London office as it grows. He said he anticipates the new office will bring a 20 percent to 30 percent increase in business for the company.
Fields said that, while new internet and phone technology is making it easier to do business from a distance than in the past, having the ability to meet with international clients in person is crucial.
"I have found in my years of experience that, still, nothing replaces one-on-one meetings where you can experience the chemistry," he said.
But Fields said CCA is using modern communication technology to keep its two offices connected, as at a recent meeting where Buckley joined the Framingham staff through video conferencing.
"It felt like Larry was here, to a point," Fields said, "except he couldn't eat the cookies."
