Lawyer Christopher Collins, who worked for Unum for 31 years, has joined Mirick O’Connell as the firm continues to grow its litigation team.
“Chris has a long and deep exposure and relationships in the Worcester business community and is also highly regarded throughout the insurance industry for his expertise in the areas of disability and life insurance,” David E. Surprenant, managing partner of Mirick O’Connell, said in a statement.
Collins will join the firm’s life, health, disability and retirement litigation team. Prior to joining the firm he was senior vice president and general counsel at Unum US, the largest provider of group and individual disability insurance in the U.S. and a fast-growing voluntary insurance business, according to a release from Mirick O’Connell. At Unum, he provided counsel and managed the company’s legal resources.
Collins is a 1980 graduate of The College of the Holy Cross, where he is a President’s Council member. He is active in the Worcester community, according to the firm, having served on numerous boards for non-profit entities, including the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, Greater Worcester Community Foundation and Worcester Regional Research Bureau. He also currently serves as chair of the Nativity School of Worcester and is a Council member of the American Antiquarian Society.
Collins will be located at the firm’s Worcester office.
