Cognex Corp. of Natick, which develops and manufactures machine vision technology, has received more than $4 million in orders from a large parcel delivery customer, it announced today.
Cognex said the company will use its DataMan 300 barcode readers on automated sorting stations in its U.S. distribution centers. They’ll be used to read barcodes on trays with items needing to be shipped, a key part of ensuring items get to their correct destinations.
The readers are expected to be shipped by the end of the year, and additional orders are anticipated.
The DataMan 300’s image analysis technology reads one-dimensional barcodes that lasers cannot, Cognex said. This includes damaged, distorted, blurred, scratched, low-height and low-contrast codes. It also reads multiple codes within the same image, and 2-D codes such as Data Matrix and QR codes.
