Cognex Corp. of Natick has promoted Robert Willett, president of the modular vision systems division, to company president and COO.
Willet will retain his current responsibilities as head of the company's largest operating division and will continue reporting to Chairman and CEO Robert J. Shillman.
Willet joined Cognex in 2008. In a statement, Shillman said the company had planned from the beginning to give him the promotion after he proved himself as president of the vision systems division.
Under the new division of responsibilities, Thomas F. Nash, president of the surface inspection systems division, will now report to Willet instead of Shillman.
Before joining Cognex, Willet was a group vice president at industrial technology manufacturer Danaher Corp. Before that, he was president of Videojet Technologies, a subsidiary of Danaher. Prior to joining Danaher, he was CEO of Willett International Ltd., which he sold to Danaher in 2003.
