Coakley Promotes Two Within Public Advocacy Bureau

Attorney General Martha Coakley has appointed two lawyers, including a Marlborough resident and city council member, to head her office’s Public Protection Advocacy Bureau and one of its main units.

Scott Schafer of Marlborough has been appointed as the new chief of the consumer protection division. Schafer takes over for Christopher Barry-Smith, who was named as the new chief of the AG’s office’s Public Protection and Advocacy Bureau.

The consumer protection division is part of the advocacy bureau.

Barry-Smith has served as chief of the consumer protection division since January 2007. Schafer has been deputy chief since last July and served as assistant attorney general in that office beginning in January 2005.
