Coakley Gets Injunction Against Alleged Foreclosure Scammers

Attorney General Martha Coakley's office has received a preliminary injunction against companies that it says preyed on Massachusetts residents facing foreclosure.

The office says Loan Modification Group Corp. and Mitigation LLC, both based in Florida, offered to dramatically reduce interest rates but demanded illegal up-front fees of up to $2,000 before providing services.

Coakley has entered into a stipulated preliminary injunction against the two companies and their principal, Daniel H. Fox, requiring them to place $50,000 into an escrow account to satisfy any judgment against them. The order, signed by Suffolk Superior Court Judge Linda Giles, also requires them to stop collecting up-front fees and inform all their Massachusetts customers about the order.

Coakley has also obtained a preliminary injunction against Chris Fuelling, who operated web sites marketing the defendants' business.
