Cloud computing firm returning to MetroWest

Nasuni, a cloud computing company that began in Natick before moving to Boston, has expanded to a new site in Marlborough.
Nasuni, a cloud computing company founded in Natick before being moved to Boston, is returning to MetroWest.
The company has outgrown its Boston offices and opened an engineering operation last week in Marlborough, the company said Tuesday. The office at 313 Boston Post Road West is planned to have 48 people by the end of the year.
"We have a long-term vision for the area," said Scott Dussault, Nasuni's CFO and COO. "It's not just a satellite that we'll be static in."
Nasuni grew from a Natick startup to a larger firm with a main office in the Boston Seaport and with other offices in Durham, N.C., and outside London. Now, the company is returning to MetroWest to take advantage of what Dussault said is a location between engineering hubs in Cambridge and Hopkinton, where cloud computing giant Dell EMC is based, among other technology companies along the I-495 belt.
"We took our time to really determine, 'What is the right location?'" said Dussault, a Northborough native.
Nasuni's Marlborough offices are located on Route 20 across from the Apex Center of New England, which opened in 2017 with restaurants, two hotels, offices and an entertainment complex.
Nasuni makes software to manage cloud computing systems, allowing Nasuni to work with, and not compete with, dominant cloud computing companies like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.
The company expects to have roughly 300 employees by the end of the year, with roughly 150 at its Boston headquarters. Nasuni's employee headcount has grown by 85% in the past two years, and the company said it expects year-to-year to employee growth this year to hit 42%.
Nasuni is the second company in the matter of weeks to announce a move to Marlborough from inside I-128. Doble Engineering plans to move from Watertown into a 79,000 square-foot office at 123 Felton St. before the end of the year.
