The average Massachusetts gasoline price on Monday was $2.76 a gallon of regular unleaded, a 1-cent increase from last week, according to travel association AAA Northeast.
The 1-cent increase is significantly less than what the state has experienced the previous five weeks, with weekly increases of 5, 9, 8, 5 and 6 cents, all of which followed an 18-cent increase between early January and early February.
“On the week, 32 states had increases of only 3 cents or less. This does not mean gas prices have hit their peak but is a positive sign for consumers,” said Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast director of public and government affairs.
A month ago, Massachusetts gasoline prices were $2.56 per gallon. A year ago, gas prices were $2.23.
