The U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center (SSC) in Natick has launched another clean-up effort in accordance with its ongoing environmental remediation effort.
ICF International, a professional services firm based in Arlington, VA, will begin work this month and is expected to complete the clean-up by mid-December. The effort includes pesticide and contaminated soil removal, demolition of building foundations, confirmatory soil and water characterization sampling, and site restoration.
One of the buildings targeted for soil removal was used as an incenerator for paperwork and another was used for vehicle and equipment maitenance.
The SSC was named to the National Environmental Protection Agency’s Superfund list in 1994, and several projects have been launched to remediate contaminated area on the site and prevent future contamination.
