John “Jack” Adam, the former CEO of the Hanover Insurance Co. and a former trustee of Clark University, gave the Worcester school a $14.2 million gift to establish a new education fund for urban teaching.
The donation is the largest in the school’s history.
The gift will create the Ruth and John Adam Education Fund and will support the Jacob Hiatt Center for Urban Education, which offers masters degrees in teaching as well as supports schools in the Main South neighborhood, where Clark is located.
Specifically, the money will be used to strengthen graduate teaching programs, improve the college-readiness programs offered at the University Park Campus School and increase research activity in urban teaching.
