Steven Swain is Clark University’s new chairman of the Board of Trustees, leading a team that aims to advance the school’s national standing, the school has announced.
Richard M. Freeland and Robert J. Stevenish were elected vice chairmen; and Linda Savitsky was re-elected secretary.
Swain, co-founder and managing partner of the growth equity investment firm Centana Growth Partners, said in Thursday’s statement from the school that the board “intends to build upon the school’s recent gains in admissions and rankings, as well as its nationally recognized work in community development and advances in liberal education, to attract highly qualified students who seek to challenge the status quo.”
He is a 1989 Clark graduate who joined the University’s Board of Trustees in 2009.
Freeland, president emeritus at Northeastern University, recently retired as the state’s commissioner of higher education. Stevenish is the retired president and chief operating officer of Modell’s Sporting Goods. Savitsky owns LRS Consulting Inc., and is the former executive director of the National Association of State Retirement Administrators.
“By tapping into the business and higher education expertise of its members, the board leadership team will center its efforts on enhancing Clark’s reputation as a global leader in liberal education and a destination of choice for academically talented and engaged students,” the Clark statement said.
