Clark professor named to prestigious fellowship

Granados-Focil

A Clark University professor, Sergio Granados-Focil, has been named one of only 65 scientists across the country to this year's class of American Chemical Society fellows, the school announced Wednesday.

Granados-Focil, a Worcester resident, teaches in Clark's Carlson School of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

The American Chemical Society will honor the new class of fellows next month at its 254th National Meeting & Exposition in Washington, D.C. The society recognized Granados-Facil's work developing ion-conducting polymers and incorporating polymer science into the chemistry curriculum at Clark and elsewhere.

Granados-Focil leads a research group helping to develop devices allowing for large-scale use of renewable energy, such as high-temperature fuel cells, specialized batteries, lithium-ion batteries and dye sensitized solar cells, Clark said. His research involves the synthesis of polymeric composites for temperature regulation in buildings, and the development of sensors for environmental and biomedical applications.

Granados-Focil received a doctorage at Case Western Reserve University, and his masters and bachelors degrees at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico.
