In a lecture on Wednesday, John Magee, professor of computer science at Clark University in Worcester, discussed his progress developing gaming and computer technology to help people with disabilities use computers.

Magee’s talk was part of the Fair Game(s): Social Change and Justice on the Digital Playground symposium hosted by the Higgins School of Humanities at Clark.

Magee has worked on developing technology called Camera Mouse, which gives people who can’t move their hands or feet the ability to control a mouse pointer by moving their head. Camera Mouse has more than 3 million downloads, and now allows participants to share their scores on games played using the technology.

Magee is working on an image editing program featuring larger icons and moving toolbars designed to make it easier for users to click.

“As a computer scientist, this is what excites me, the human reaction to what’s going on with technology,” Magee said during the lecture. “This is what I like to develop, and these are the kinds of things I want to give to people.”
