On Wednesday, Clark University in Worcester announced the appointment of Kamala Kiem as its new associate provost and dean of students.
Kiem, who has led student engagement and residential life at Smith College in Northampton, UMass Amherst, and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will begin her role at Clark on Jan. 3, according to a press release from Provost Sebastián Royo.
Kiem has held leadership roles at Fairfield University in Connecticut since 2008, with her last six years spent as associate dean of students and director of student engagement. At Fairfield, she co-lead the President’s Institutional Diversity Council and the Diversity Leadership Team.
She will be taking over for Donna Curry, who has served as interim dean of students since Francy Magee stepped down in March. Magee held the position for five years and is now vice president for student life and dean of students at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania.
Kiem holds degrees from Florida International University, Michigan State University, and UMass Amherst. She is pursuing her doctorate in higher education at UMass Boston.
