City Takes Stock Of Year’s Economic Developments

The City of Worcester has released its 2008 Economic Development Year in Review Report.

The report outlines the $2.2 billion in development that was either proposed or in progress during the year, which, the city says, is the result of aggressive marketing efforts and a streamlined planning and permitting process for new businesses.

In the report, City Manager Michael V. O’Brien gives credit for much of the city’s economic development success to a dozen programs that target a variety of development initiatives, such as the Buy Worcester Now home ownership program, the city’s storefront grant program and economic development incentive program.

The report highlights a number of projects, business openings and future plans that O’Brien says illustrate “Worcester’s diverse and thriving business scene.”
