Big development news for downtown Worcester is expected during a press conference scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The Telegram & Gazette is reporting that the city will announce an agreement to bring Unum Group to Berkeley Investments Inc.'s stalled $565 million mixed-use CitySquare project. The announcement will be made on the ninth floor of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences building at 25 Foster St.
Neither Unum nor city officials could be reached for comment.
Unum, which employs about 700 people at its 400,000-square-foot operations center on Chestnut Street, put out a request for proposals for a new, more modern and much smaller 175,000-square-foot building in the fall.
Berkeley, the Worcester Business Development Corp., which is developing the Gateway Park project just north of downtown, and the city all responded to the RFP.
Unum, a Tennessee-based employee benefits provider, said its preference was to remain in the city.
